Abstract
Soybean and common bean yield and yield component can be increased by targeting legume genotypes to different environmental conditions with proper management practices through the use of appropriate fertilizers and rhizobium inoculants.
Different trials were conducted in different agro-ecological zones of Rwanda, to evaluate the effect of different fertilizers , rhizobium inoculation and environmental conditions on performance of soybean and common bean varieties . The results showed variability amongst legume genotypes across sites and seasons. Responsiveness to inoculation and fertilizers varied greatly dependent on sites and seasons. During all seasons, there was no consistent effects from inoculation or fertilizer application. Higher yields and yield components were observed with or without inputs depending on the legume genotype, season and site.
